Characteristics Flores de Callejo
Flores de Callejo is a single-variety Tempranillo red wine made by Félix Callejo winery in the D.O. Ribera de Duero.
Bodegas Félix Callejo was set up in 1989 in northern Ribera del Duero, specifically in Sotillo de la Ribera (Burgos) and named after its founder. This is a dream that began when he was only 16 years old and took over the family wine broker business to then start making his own wines.
The Flores de Callejo wine comes from vines over 40 years old planted in loamy clay soils. Lying in the highest part of the Douro Valley, between 850 and 930 metres above sea level, this is a privileged enclave within the denomination. The sudden temperature changes between day and night help the grapes to develop a perfect balance between maturity and acidity. As soon as they reach this point of ripeness, manual harvest begins in boxes.
In the winery, the Flores de Callejo grapes pass over a rigorous double selection table. Then the grapes are destemmed and without being squeezed, they are put in stainless steel tanks for a cold pre-fermentation at 10°C. Then the native yeasts begin to spontaneously ferment around the fifth day after racking and it is left to macerate with the skins for 3 days. Finally, it is transferred to French oak barrels to age for 6 months before bottling.
Flores de Callejo is the youngest wine in the Félix Callejo collection. A red wine with youthful fruit and freshness that is perfect for enjoying straight away.

Flores de Callejo 2018 is a very aromatic red wine with marked notes of forest fruits, hints of confectionery and balsamic touches. On the palate it is meaty, lively and fresh with berry, spicy and balsamic touches.
It shows abundant notes of fleshy and unctuous fruit. Although it is a young wine, it is quite structured and has a good final persistence. A red wine with an excellent value for money.
Dark cherry colour with bluish nuances. Clean and bright.
High intensity nasal aromas, dominated by notes of berries and hints of vanilla and milk. Once aerated, some spicy and pleasant balsamic aromas are also noticed.
Wine with a very good attack and a soft, silky and very tasty mid palate. It has marked notes of intense, fleshy, and slightly sweet fruits. It is more bodied than one could expect from a wine aged for six months only. It has a perfect acidity and sweet tannins. Very long mid palate.
Intense dark cherry colour with purple reflections. Bright and clean wine with a high robe and thin tears.
Intense, seductive and concentrated aromas. The notes of juicy red and black fruits are expressive. They are nuanced by some noble wooden aromas which remain in a smooth background, formed of light notes of cocoa and subtle hints of liquorice and menthol.
