D.O. Toro (Castilla y León)
Flor de Vetus is a D.O. Toro red wine made by Vetus. This winery lies a few kilometres from the town of Toro (Zamora), the epicentre of this denomination of origin.
The Vetus winery is part of Grupo Artevino, a winemaking cooperative that also counts wineries like Orben, Villacreces and Izadi among its members.
Flor de Vetus is a single-variety Tinta de Toro wine. The grapes come from low yield vineyards planted 700m above sea level on north to south facing slopes. The vines grow on limestone soils, with coarse and fine-grained sandstone.
The Flor de Vetus winemaking process begins with a manual harvest and a double selection process in the winery.
It is then fermented in tapered tanks. Before being sold, Flor de Vetus ages for nine months in French oak barrels.
The Flor de Vetus 2012 vintage achieved an impressive 92 Parker points. With a good price and a high rating, it became a Decantalo best-seller.
