Finca Comabarra is a red wine produced by Tomàs Cusiné, in El Vilosell, D.O. Costers del Segre.

In 2003, Tomàs Cusiné starts his own project with a 30-hectare farm located on the northern face of La Llena, the last mountain range of El Montsant. The farm is located between 700 and 740 metres of altitude, on calcareous soils, with different amounts of gravel and with a clay and clayey-loam structure, with good permeability and freshness.

This is where his wines are born. They finish their refinement in the winery located at an old cooperative of the village of El Vilosell.

With maximum respect and little intervention, Tomás Cusiné aims to achieve more elegant, complex, fresh, long lasting wines.

Finca Comabarra is a wine made with Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah from the best plots of Finca Comabarra. The vineyards are located at 700 metres of altitude, planted on calcareous soils with a limy structure and gravel.

The grapes are manually harvested and placed in boxes. The grapes are selected berry by berry in the winery, on a double selection table. The three varieties ferment separately in 2,000 litre deposits. The malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak barrels where the wine remains for 18 months.

Pictures and situation Tomàs Cusiné
When we refer to the DO Costers del Segre we think of wines with a continental character, which in some respects is true, but extensive replantation of international grape varieties means that the majority of wines produced here lack a geographical or territorial trademark, even though the vast majority of the wines are technologically perfect. However, there are currently wineries such as Mas Blanch i Jové, Costers del Sio, L’Olivera, Lagravera and Thomas Cusiné, among others, who concentrate their effors on producing wines with what are considered varieties native to the region. However, the majority of this region is still dominated by classic international varieties.
