Characteristics Felton Road Riesling Block 1
Felton Road Riesling Block 1 is a biodynamic white wine aged on lees made in Central Otago (New Zealand’s South Island) by Felton Road.
Located in the historic mining town of Bannockburn, in the heart of Otago, the Felton Road winery has an excellent reputation around the world for its non-interventionist methods in both the vineyard and winery. The winery has a modern building which allows the vinification process to make use of gravity. Through these methods, they produce biodynamic wines with unique personalities.
Felton Road Riesling Block 1 comes from their own vineyards lying on warm slopes with loess soils and layers of silt. With biodynamic certification, they use plant preparations and cover crops to protect the natural balance of the vine and enhance soil health and biodiversity.
In the winery, the meticulously selected grapes for the Felton Road Riesling Block 1 are pressed and the resulting must is left to rest for 7 days. Then fermentation takes place with native yeasts for 4 weeks. Fermentation is stopped through cooling, which brings acidity, sugar (57g/l) and a low alcohol content (9%). Finally, it rests on its fine lees for a time before bottling.
Felton Road Riesling Block 1 2019 is an exotic, complex and deep white wine with Demeter certification. A real fresh fruit explosion.
