Èlia is a red wine produced by the winery Ficaria Vins in La Figuera (Tarragona), D.O.Montsant.
Ficaria Vins is a family-run winery that was created in 2002 by Jaume Roca and his wife, Montse Castro.
In the first vintage they only produced 3 barrels, and after they had seen the results, the decided to extend the production. They started to take fewer grapes to the cooperative, as Jaume's family had been doing for many years.
Ficaria Vins has three farms, La Cerverola, Els Plans and La Font, all of them in the municipality of La Figuera. Its soils are mainly clayey-calcareous with some sandy areas.
They cultivate the vines following the criteria of organic and biodynamic agriculture, respecting their balance and biodiversity to the maximum extent.
Èlia is made from Grenache (70%), Syrah (20%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%). The vineyards are planted on clayey-calcareous soils, in their own farms.
To make this Èlia red wine, each one of the varieties ferment separately in stainless steel deposits. Once the fermentation has finished, it is aged for 12 months in third and forth-use French oak barrels. Finally, it remains 12 more months in the bottle before it is launched.
Èlia is a concentrated, ample and expressive wine. We are in front of a classic Montsant, extremely elegant without losing any intensity.
