El Rapolao is a red wine from Bierzo produced by the Raul Perez winery. The winery is located in Villafranca del Bierzo, in the province of León.
El Rapolao is made from the Mencia variety and small percentages of Alicante Bouschet, Estaladina and Souson.
The grapes come from vineyards planted on soils rich in clay and iron, facing north, located on the grounds of Valtuille de Abajo.
Regarding its preparation, El Rapolao undergoes fermentation in wood vats of 5000l. After this process, the wine is aged for 12 months in sycamore oak barrels.
