Badiu 2020 is an intense white wine. On the nose it is deep, with notes of white fruit, fennel, peach skin and citrus aromas. On the palate it is broad and saline, with texture and depth. Elegant. Balanced acidity and spicy touches.
El Badiu is an organic, barrel-aged white wine made by Vins de la Memòria with the Pansa Blanca variety in the D.O. Alella (Catalonia).
Vins de la Memòria is a tribute by sommellier Xavi Nolla to his grandfather, as he makes wines in strategic places from the Spanish Civil War. Making wines in the Terra Alta, Priorat, Conca de Barberà, Alella and Roussillon wine regions, he maps out a full historical journey and works to recover the viticulture of all of these places.
El Badiu is the sixth wine in this “memory” collection made from recovered vineyards in Can Coll, in Canyet (Alella). These vines lie in the Sierra de Montigalà, a place where the Republican side used to take refuge and which, today, is the only remaining productive plot of the Pansa Blanca variety in the whole area. They are old vines planted at 150 metres above sea level in clay and sandstone soils and cultivated according to ecological principles.
When the grapes have been harvested manually, El Badiu is vinified using this area’s traditional methods. It ferments spontaneously with native yeasts and ages for 4 months in 650-litre chestnut wood barrels and in stainless steel tanks. The wine is bottled without clarification or filtering and may contain sediment.
El Badiu is a fresh and complex wine made from a unique vineyard and vinified in the old Catalan way. A white that evokes memories of the past.
