Ekam Essència is a white wine produced by the Castell d’Encús en the Costers del Segre region, a winery located in the catalán pyrenees at around 1,000 metres above sea level, which makes it the winery that produces wines at the highest altitudes in Spain. Its director, Raul Bobet, is known to produce another fashionable wine in Priorat region, Ferrer Bobet.
Ekam Essència is made using Riesling (100%) grapes. Noble rot grapes are used in the production of the wine. These grapes are infected with Botrytis, a fungus that attacks grapes removing water and leaving a high percentage of sugar, fruit acids and minerals.
The harvest is carried out manually in small boxes with a 10kg capacity, then vinification is carried out in 6hl vats at a low temperature.
Ekam Essència is then aged for 36 months in the bottle before being put on the market. With a limited production of 3,000 bottles being made, this is a special wine made in the style of German Rieslings.
