Domaine de la Janasse is a family winery founded in 1916. Part of its vineyard was planted in the 1970s. When the current manager Romain Paire joined the Domaine in 2005 he restored the winery, converted its vineyards into organic ones and planted vines that eventually covered 10 hectares. Nowadays the winery is taking a step towards respecting the nature and biodiversity of its vineyards by encouraging their biodynamic cultivation.
The vineyard for Domaine des Pothiers Clos du Puy is a plot that has granitic soil and faces southeast at an altitude of 515 metres, and covers an area of 1.7 hectares. The grapes are harvested by hand in order to perform an initial selection of the bunches while still in the field.
Once in the cellar, the harvest of Domaine des Pothiers Clos du Puy is partially destemmed and fermented and macerated for 16-18 days in cement vats. During this time pigeages are performed, with the capping layer of skins being periodically sunk into the must-wine to extract compounds and colour from it. Once fermented, the wine is aged for 10 to 11 months in 500 litre used barrels and foudres.
Domaine des Pothiers Clos du Puy is a wine with a storage potential of about 10 years. A fresh, fruity and spicy red wine.
