Della Staffa Rosso Scuderia is a natural wood-aged red wine produced by the Conestabile Della Staffa winery in the IGP Umbria, in Italy. 
 
The Della Staffa project is run by Danilo Marcucci, a winegrower who, after working with the best natural winemakers, set up his own project on his wife’s family’s historic estate in Montemelino (Umbria). His secret lies in using local varieties, biodynamic treatments and minimal intervention vinification to produce wines that are a pure expression of the area.  
 
Della Staffa Rosso Scuderia comes from a vineyard located 250-300 metres above sea level. These vineyards are influenced by the nearby Lake Trasimeno and are planted on clay soils and limestone rock. Cultivation is 100% ecological without any chemical products, using biodynamic treatments instead. 
 
In the winery, Della Staffa Rosso Scuderia is vinified with minimal intervention. To do this, the must remains in contact with the skin for 2 weeks and ferments spontaneously with native yeasts and then the wine is aged for 18 months in botti, a large 1500-litre barrel. Finally, the wine is bottled without being filtered, clarified or adding sulphur. 
 
Della Staffa Rosso Scuderia is a good introduction to a very inspiring project that has a great future ahead of it. A “rosso” with appealing simplicity.
