De Trafford Syrah CSC 2013 is a red wine that on the nose offers fruity aromas of blackcurrants and is accompanied by notes of chalk, minerals and spices reminiscent of white pepper and anise. On the palate it is concentrated, highlighting the notes from the nose. This is a wine with soft, calcareous and persistent tannins, perfect to enjoy young, but that will become more complex in a few years.

De Trafford Syrah CSC is a single-variety Syrah red wine produced by the De Trafford winery in Coastal Region, South Africa.

The clusters used to make the De Trafford Syrah CSC wine come from three different vineyards: 40% of the Syrah is from the Sijnn-Malgas plot that has very stony soils over decomposed shale. Another 40% comes from the Newton Johnson Superior Hemel vineyard in Aarde where the soils are mainly made up of decomposed shale and gravels, and the remaining 20% of the Syrah comes from the Springfontein-Walker Bay plot where the vineyard is covered in a unique limestone soil.

The harvest is carried out manually and the grapes are collected in 20 kg boxes. When the grapes reach the winery, the clusters are destemmed and squeezed gently and directly in open tanks where spontaneous natural fermentation takes place for about 14 days, with periodic manual perforations of the “cap”.

The resulting wine is removed and transferred directly to barrels where it undergoes malolactic fermentation. It ages in used small French oak barrels for twenty months and is then bottled by hand without refining or filtering.

These three different terroirs of the Cape South Coast region, which is where the name CSC comes from, give the wine concentration, structure, fruit, spices, elegance and great aromatic intensity.
