Daterra Gavela da Vila Granito is a biodynamic Palomino variety white wine made in the Ribeira Sacra by Daterra viticulltores.
Laura Lorenzo is a young winemaker who, after working in the Dominio do Bibei winery, realised that the Bibei Valley had great winemaking resources that were not being used. This is how she decided to start her own project in the Orense village of Manzaneda (Galicia). Daterra viticultores has 4 hectares of vineyards spread over 24 plots where all the native varieties are mixed. They make very distinctive wines with an Altantic touch using biodynamic viticulture and intervening as little as possible in the winemaking process.
The Daterra Gavela da Vila Granito vineyards lie on very steep slopes on sandy, quartz, granite, slate and gneiss soils. These are very old vines, aged between 80 and 120 years old and cultivated using permaculture techniques and biodynamic practices. This is heroic viticulture where the harvest is carried out manually in 15 kg boxes.
When the harvest reaches the winery, it is macerated leaving 10% of the grapes with their stalks. Daterra Gavela da Vila Granito then ferments spontaneously with native yeasts in 2nd use 225-litre barrels and ages for 7 months.
Daterra Gavela da Vila Granito is a deep and mineral white wine from a very challenging environment where the winemaker passionately persists to create quality wines.
