Curii Una noche y un día is a young red wine aged on lees made with the local Giró (Garnacha) variety in Alicante (Spain) by the Curii Uvas y Vinos family winery.

Violeta Gutiérrez de la Vega (daughter of the Gutiérrez de la Vega winery family) and Alberto Redrado (sommelier at the l’Escaleta restaurant and winner of the National Gastronomy Award for Best Sommelier in 2009) set up their own project in the town of Xaló (Alicante) in 2010. The winemaking identity of this region was completely taken over by the Moscatel business, and now this couple are working to recover it by reviving forgotten plots of the local native varieties. They also work with minimal intervention in the winery to produce wines that are 100% Mediterranean, complex and really extraordinary.

Curii Una noche y un día comes from vines aged between 15 and 60 years old. These are strains planted at 350 metres above sea level in calcareous soils and under the typical Mediterranean climate. The variety is Giro, an Alicante Garnacha clone that is cultivated in a traditional way through a respectful agriculture and thorough monitoring throughout the vine’s growth cycle. When the grape reaches optimum ripeness, it is harvested manually.

In the winery, the Curii Una noche y un día grapes are partially destemmed and traditionally trampled in open tanks. The resulting must ferments spontaneously with native yeasts and is kept in contact with skins throughout this process. Once it has become wine, it is transferred without pressing into stainless steel tanks and allowed to rest for 6 months on fine lees.

The result is Curii Una noche y un día. A wine named after the length of time the grape skins macerate with the must. A young, fresh and vibrant red wine with a strong Mediterranean identity.
