Cuatro Pasos Black is a red wine produced by Martin Codax, in Cacabelos, León, under the D.O. Bierzo.

This wine is made exclusively with the Mencía grape variety, taken from 80 year old vines on slopes of slate soils which are plowed, with no type of herbicide being used. The harvest is carried out manually using 20kg boxes.

Cuatro Pasos Black is made in stainless steel tanks, with fermentation carried out for 7 days, left to macerate for 25 days with its skins. The wine is then aged for 10 months in American oak barrels.

This is a well concentrated wine, seeking for the maturity of the grape as well as the toasted and spiced nature of the barrel.

Cuatro Pasos is the project of Martín Códax (Cambados, D.O. Rías Baixas) in the lands of El Bierzo. After years of effort, considerable investments and challenging decisions, Martín Códax has demonstrated that he not only has a sixth sense when it comes to forecasting new trends in the wine market but also that he knows how to execute them with perfect mastery. Bodegas Cuatro Pasos is a clear bet for an area of great oenological interest, El Bierzo, conceived under the philosophy of empowering the identity of the terroir, as well as the personality and the quality of the native variety, Mencía.
Bierzo wine is on the rise. It is a region defined by its small scale work, with plots scattered around, very old vines, artisan work of the small scale wineries, and the character of their principal variety, the Mencía grape, which produces fresh, fruity and delicious wines. Although the region is well known mostly for its red wines, it also produces white and rosé wines. If the red wines here are defined by the Mencía variety, then the white wines here are defined by the Godello. Godello grape has great aromatic potential, as well as an excellent balance between alcohol and acidity.  Despite the great potential of El Bierzo, its rise in the wine world would not have been possible without two people: Raúl Pérez and Ricardo Pérez. Two great winemakers who in little time have been able to produce critically acclaimed wines from the Bierzo region.
