Characteristics Cristom Marjorie Vineyard Pinot Noir
Cristom Marjorie Vineyard Pinot Noir is a barrel-aged red wine made with the Pinot Noir variety by Cristom Vinyards in the Villamette Valley denomination, in Oregon (USA).
Cristom Vinyards was set up in 1992 and is run by engineer and founder Paul Gerrie, winemaker Cristom Steve Doerner and grower Marcos Feltz. The winery has Low Input Viticulture and Enology (LIVE) certification, they cultivate their vines with the utmost respect and make wine with minimal intervention. This results in a magnificently expressive Pinot Noir.
Cristom Marjorie Vineyard Pinot Noir comes from one of Cristom’s four vineyards that are named after the Gerrie family women. ‘Marjorie’ is the oldest vineyard on the estate and is named after the grandmother. These are old vines planted in clay-calcareous soil and cultivated using sustainable agriculture and a low yield. When the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are manually harvested.
When they reach the winery, the Cristom Marjorie Vineyard Pinot Noir grapes ferment spontaneously with native yeasts in open tanks and with three pump overs a day. The wine is then transferred by gravity to new and used French oak barrels where it remains for 18 months. Finally it is bottled unfiltered and clarified with egg whites.
Cristom Marjorie Vineyard Pinot Noir is the ideal red wine to enjoy the fragrances and flavours of Pinot Noir at its most American.
