Characteristics Craggy Range Le Sol
Craggy Range Le Sol is a barrel-aged wine made by Craggy Range in Hawke’s Bay (New Zealand) with the Syrah red variety.
After 10 years of searching for the perfect place to make wine, Terry Peabody and his family made their dream come true in Hawke’s Bay. With technical help from prestigious winemaker Steve Smith, Craggy Range has now become one of the best known wineries in New Zealand with its intense and elegant red and white wines.
Craggy Range Le Sol comes from vines with alluvial soils of stone and sand that retain heat. This is a warm area tempered by the sea breeze, providing excellent conditions for the Syrah variety. They use environmentally friendly agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness.
In the winery, the Craggy Range Le Sol grapes are meticulously selected and destemmed. After being crushed, fermentation takes place in a combination of French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks, all with an open lid and at a controlled temperature. Finally, the wine ages for 11 months in French oak barrels, 30% of which are new.
Craggy Range Le Sol is a pure reflection of this area’s warmth. A deep, silky and dark wine that showcases the virtues of the Syrah variety on the other side of the world.
