Contino Blanco is a white wine from D.O.Ca. La Rioja produced in Laserna, by the winery Viñedos del Contino, which is owned by the Winemaking Company of Northern Spain (CVNE).

In 1973, thanks to the work of CVNE and the family who owns the farm, Contino was born, the first "chateau" of Rioja. Viñedos del Contino is a combination of vineyards and wines, established in the surroundings of an old stately home on a meander of the river Ebro. Their wines are only made from the vines planted in their 62 hectares of vineyards, located in Laserna, Laguardia, in the Rioja Alavesa.

Contino Blanco is a wine made from Viura, White Grenache and Malvoisie. Each variety comes from a different farm with a different kind of soil, and from vines that are between 35 and 40 years old.

Harvesting is carried out manually, selecting the grapes in the vineyard and in the winery. Before alcoholic fermentation, it goes through cold maceration in contact with its skins. Fermentation begins in stainless steel deposits and ends in 350 to 500-litre French oak barrels. It is aged for 6 or 7 months in barrels, with its skins and with 2 batonnages per week. It does not go through malolactic fermentation to preserve its acidity.

Contino Blanco is a meaty wine, with volume and freshness. Very ripe white fruit notes elegantly blended with notes of roasted dried fruit. It is a reference white wine in this region.

Viñedos del Contino is situated in La Rioja Alavesa, on the banks of the Ebro River. Inspired by the French ‘Châteux´, Burgundian `clos` and Californian ‘single vineyard`, the wines produced here are made only from the plots inside the estate. Viñedos del Contino is currently part of the Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (CVNE) group.

Rioja is one of the most important areas of wine production in the world. It has a long history, and exceptional soils and climates. From the Tempranillo and Grenache varieties they make great red wines that are masterfully aged which demonstrates the experience passed from generation to generation.
