D.O. Montsant (Catalonia)
Comunica is a red wine from the D.O. Montsant produced by Celler Comunica. This wine is a blend of three different grape varieties: garnacha peluda and cariñena.
The grapes used to make this wine come from various vineyards, ranging between 25 and 70 years, that are home to granite and sandy soils. The vineyards are situated at altitudes of around 370 metres. The region is home to a dry Mediterranean climate, with warm but relatively high temperatures where rainfall is rare. Agriculture is conducted in a manner that is respectful to the environment in all its phases.
Comunica is characterised by its long ageing, which lasts for 20 months on its lees in stainless steel tanks. Prior to this, the grapes undergo maceration and ferment for two or three dozen days.
Celler Comunica is a project led by Pep Aguilar and Patri Morillo. After years of working with different wineries across various regions of Spain, the two wineries decided to set up camp in Montsant. Ageing in stainless steel tanks is one of the wineries distinctive feature, which really helps the wine convey the character of the terroir.
