Mas d'en Gil Coma Blanca is an elegant white wine from Priorat produced by the Mas d'en Gil winery.
Mas d'en Gil Coma Blanca is a blend made from the Garnacha Blanca and Macabeo varieties. The grapes come from a farm of 125 acres, the vineyard, which occupies 45 hectares, shares space with almond trees olive trees, hazelnut trees and Mediterranean forest.
It is an estate with slate soils, called licorella in the Priorat, with several vineyards planted on terraces and slopes.
The vineyards, all old vines over 50 years of age are planted in several plots. Individual management of each plot is performed to determine the optimum harvest for each of them. The harvest is done manually and the grapes are transferred to the winery in small boxes of 20kg, which allow the grapes to arrive in perfect condition.
A selection process occurs in the vineyard itself, which has a low yield. The grapes are destemmed and macerated in an inert atmosphere at -60 ° C for about 8 hours to extract the maximum aromas and flavours of the grape.
Fermentation occurs at a controlled temperature of 21-23ºC in French oak barrels of 225 litres. The wine is aged for 6 months with its lees to avoid unwanted oxidation.
After the aging, Mas d'en Gil Coma Blanca is gently filtered and a light clarification is made. It is bottled and allowed to stand for at least 12 months.
