Characteristics Château Latour
Château Latour is a barrel-aged red wine made by the prestigious Château Latour in the AOC Pauillac denomination (France) with the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot varieties.
This castle dates back to the year 1331 and Gaucele de Castillon, fighting off attacks during the Hundred Years’ War. It was not until the arrival of the Ségur family in 1695 that the property took off as true winemaking estate. The business was passed from generation to generation until 1963, when the Ségur family were no longer sole owners, with various Brits taking part ownership. In 1993 it passed back into the hands of the French when it was acquired by businessman François Pinault.
Lying in a privileged location 300 metres from the Gironde River, it is an exceptional vineyard classified as premier cru. Thanks to its magnificent gravel and clay soils and the river that works as a perfect temperature regulator, this wine is made with three of the four Premier Crus Classés from Médoc in the Bordeaux region. A total of 47 hectares of vineyards that are cultivated using traditional agriculture, with the harvest carried out completely manually.
In the winery, the Château Latour grapes are vinified by plots. First, the clusters are selected, destemmed and crushed. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Lastly, the wine ages in new French oak barrels for 20-24 months.
Honouring the reputation of the prestigious Medoc wine region, Château Latour reveals the elegance and finesse of the Cabernet Sauvignon variety at its perfect ripeness.
