Characteristics Château Certan Marzelle
Château Certan Marzelle is a monovarietal Merlot red wine from the AOC Pomerol produced by Château Certan Marzelle.
Château Certan Marzelle is a small 2 hectare property that is located on the Pomerol plateau. It was acquired by Jean Pierre Moueix in 1999. In its beginnings it was part of the Château Caeran-Giraud, but later Moueix divided it into two plots: Câteau Hosanna and Château Certan Marzelle.
The Merlot vineyards for Château Certan Marzelle have an average age of 25 years. They are planted on land with clayey and gravel soils that combine draining power with water retention for perfect cultivation of the vine. The average yields are about 40 hectolitres per hectare. The grapes are harvested by hand and once in the winery they are vinified in the Bordeaux style. First they are destemmed and then pressed and covered. Once fermented Château Certan Marzelle ages in French oak barrel, 35-65% of which are new. About 10,000 bottles are produced per year.
Château Certan Marzelle is an elegant, smooth and generous Pomerol with fruit and richness, and like all the wines from the region has a good ageing potential.
