Cargol Treu Vi is a white wine produced in Penedès by Alemany i Corrio in Villafranca del Penedès, Barcelona. Irene Alemany and Laurent Corrio met in Burgundy while studying oenology. Their passion for the wine-making world inspired them to found Penedès’ first garage winery in 1999.

Cargol Treu Vi’s vineyard is located in the Garraf mountain range, with over 70 year old strains planted on limestone soils, which provides the wine with minerality and saltiness.

After harvesting the grapes, they are pressed and the must ferments in 300 litre barrels. It is left to rest on its lees for 12 months.

Cargol Treu Vi is a white wine that combines acidity and the land’s freshness with a body provided by the vinification process and period spent ageing on its lees. A complete wine with a low production, since they only produce 1200 bottles.

Sot Lefriec is the name of the first wine a couple of enthusiastic young winemakers, and Laurent Irene Alemany Penedès in Corrie. Irene is from Penedès, Laurent is french (Lefriec was the name of his grandmother). Both studied oenology in Bourgogne, after which it took to produce a small quantity of wine from a small vineyard.
Today, the D.O Penedès is experimenting with viticulture and winemaking like no other region in Spain, home to a vast range of different grape varieties. The region is home to traditional white and red varieties, foreign ones, noble ones, permitted grapes, experimental grapes, and those that demostrate intrinsic qualities. As well as the grapes, the production techniques used are also worth noting, the location of the vineyards, the yields per hectare, the wines produced using traditional, original or even exclusive blends, the different ageing times, as well as the complexity of the different barrels used! But the reality is, given the vast diversity, it can be difficult to pinpoint what really defines a wine from Penedès, since there are so many types of wines and wineries in the region. However, the common denominator of all the wines from Penedès continues to be balance and quality.
