Cara Nord Garrut is a red wine produced by the winery Cara Nord in Vilosell (Tarragona), D.O.Conca de Barberà.

Cara Nord is a project that was created in 2012 by Tomàs Cusiné, Xavier Cepero and Eric Solomon, 3 friends that have known each other for more than 20 years and who have great experience in the wine industry.

Cara Nord is a young winery that believes that the place of origin, the vine, the climate, the land and the people who work there, are decisive to achieve a unique personality for each wine. To do so, they cultivate vines surrounded by high mountains and forests that belong to the natural parks Muntanyes de Prades and Bosc de Poblet. These vineyards are isolated at around 800 metres of altitude. They are planted on poor slate and clayey-calcareous soils with rocky outcrops, cliffs and mountains.

The climate is continental-Mediterranean, with extremely cold winters and very short summers. The cold temperatures delay the accumulation of sugars, preserving the acidity and yielding very expressive and fruity grape bunches.

Cara Nord Garrut is a wine made from the local variety Garrut (Monastrell) from their own vineyards.

Once they have been harvested, they go through a traditional winemaking process. Then, the grapes ferment with their skins at a controlled temperature. Once the fermentation has ended, the wine is aged for 6 months, 50% in 500-litre used French oak barrels and the remaining 50% in 500-litre amphorae.

Cara Nord Garrut is an intense, elegant and fresh wine. This unique ageing helps to stabilise the wine, without adding any flavours that cover its delicious fruit.

Cara Nord is a young winery located in the Sierra de Prades, a mountain located to the south of Catalonia, part of the well-known Cordillera Prelitoral Catalana. The name of the winery refers to the place where their wine are produced: the north face of the Sierra de Prades.
Its characteristics and its winemaking tradition and history, inspired this new project.

As with many other Catalonian wine regions, the DO. Conca de Barberà is developing its own territorial identity that over the years has been redefining the personality of the wines and the region, with the help of the red Trepat grape variety. The Trepat grape can be used to produce good sparkling rosés, rosés with character, fresh red wines, as well as elegant blanc de noirs. In just a few years the region and this grape variety have shown their potential, their versatility, and the possibility of carrying out R&D (Research and Development) with them. There are still few wineries who produce single variety wines using this grape, but most importantly, all of them have become aware of the obligation to enhance the uniqueness that defines the territory and the new style of wine to be imposed in the twenty-first century.
