Bernat Oller Rosat is a rosé wine from D.O. Pla del Bages, produced by the winery Oller del Mas in the municipality of Manresa (Barcelona).

 

Oller del Mas is a winery located in a restored medieval castle from the 10th century. The Margenat family is the heir and curator of the history of the Oller family.

The farm of Oller del Mas has 600 hectares, 60 of which are certified as organic vineyard, cultivated without any chemical synthesis products and using organic fertilisers. It is also the first winery in Catalonia and the third in the world to have the the lowest carbon emissions (0.7 grams per litre).

The soils that we find at Oller del Mas are quite diverse. However, the loamy-clayey soils and the calcareous ones stand out. The climate in this area is strictly Mediterranean-continental, characterised by scarce rainfall and a strong variation in temperatures.

 

Bernat Oller Rosat is a wine made from Merlot and Picapoll Negre from the farms Auseré and Margenat, plots that are over 15 years old, located at 260 metres of altitude on clay loam soils.

The grapes are manually harvested and placed in 15-kg boxes. When they arrive at the winery, the Merlot goes through the saignée after 3 hours of maceration, and the Picapoll Negre is pressed directly, macerating in cold for an hour. They ferment in different stainless steel deposits at a controlled temperature of 16°C for 21 days. Once they are assembled, they are aged for 4 months with their lees in stainless steel deposits.

 

Bernat Oller Rosat is a fruity, elegant and fresh wine. The intense aroma of fresh red fruit stands out. In the mouth it is sweet, round and long lasting.

Home to great red, white and rosé wines, as well as sparkling, naturally sweet and rancio wines, perhaps it’s a little early to try and pinpoint what it means to be a wine from the DO. Pla del Bages. However, for now the region is known for their red wines, both single-varieties and blends, but especially their white wines produced with the Picapoll grape, a native variety to the region and used by almost all of the wineries.
