Real reviews from customers who have purchased this product

For Bernardo Estévez's father, the retirement from the mechanic workshop where he worked in Vigo was the end of his working life. For Bernardo, who worked with him, it was the beginning of his new life in Arnoia (southeast of Ourense, in Galicia), where he would devote himself to wine and vineyards.

It started with little more than 2 hectares and today is one of the most admired names in the D.O. Ribeiro, the oldest in Galicia. Among its creations is Bernardo Estévez Chánselus Cepas Vellas Tinto, a wine made with native varieties in the winery the winemaker has next to his house. There, in the valleys of San Vicente and San Amaro, Bernardo Estévez recovers native varieties for the elaboration of Bernardo Estévez Chánselus Cepas Vellas Tinto. Halfway between biodynamics and the principles of Masanobu Fukuoka (Japanese farmer, biologist and philosopher), Bernardo Estévez follows the principles of natural agriculture, based on avoiding common practices such as ploughing (the soil should always remain in its natural state without altering its micro-ecosystem), fertilizer, pruning (plants grow according to their needs of space and light) or the use of herbicides and pesticides (they not only kill unwanted insects and weeds, but also eliminate beneficial ones).

In the winery, Bernardo Estévez Chánselus Cepas Vellas Tinto is made with grapes destemmed by hand and trodden by foot, like traditionally. After that, the spontaneous fermentation will start (which will last between 7 and 8 days), and will continue with the malolactic fermentation in a 600-liter barrel, where it will remain between 8 and 10 months. After this time, it’s racked into stainless steel tanks and finally bottled. Finally, it will wait 16 months in the cellar before being sold.

La Treixadura has established itself as the prominent variety of the Ribeiro. The variety has become irreplaceable in the region, responsible for the fame achieved by the region's wines, as well as their glorious past. It is a well planted strain, vigorous, fairly resistant to disease, with middle productivity and late maturing, which helps produce wines with a spectacular and personal character through the variety, full of freshness and flavour in the mouth, and added mystery.
