Bernard Baudry La Croix Boissée Rouge is a single-varietal Cabernet Franc red wine produced by Bernard Baudry in the A.O.C. Chinon in the Loire Valley, France.
Bernard Baudry La Croix Boissée Rouge is made from clusters growing in plots with highly calcareous soils, with sandy clays on white tuff, which gives the wine a firm body with marked tannins. These vineyards are south-facing, so the vines have a great sun exposure. The vines range in age from 15 to 40 years and are harvested manually.
When the grapes reach the winery, they ferment in oak vats for 20 days and the resulting wine ages for 24 months in first, second and third year oak barrels. The wine is bottled unfiltered in January, two years after the harvest.
Bernard Baudry is a great producer in Chinon. He comes from a family of winegrowers, and in 1975 he decided to set up his own estate that had 2 hectares of vines at the time. His winery now works 32 hectares spread across the A.O.C. Chignon and with diverse terroirs. They cultivate in a way that is environmentally-respectful and with minimal intervention. They do not use herbicides, pesticides or chemical fertilisers so they can make wines that really reflect each of the climates and landscapes they come from.
Bernard Baudry La Croix Boissée Rouge is a limited production wine. An extraordinary example of the exquisite expression that Bernard Baudry manages to produce from the Cabernet Franc variety.
