Sicily’s strategic location in the middle of the Mediterranean has attracted various cultures to its shores over time. An island with a rich and attractive history nourished by rich local products like wine, oil and salami. Lorenzo Piccione di Pianogrillo is someone who has without doubt managed to give these Sicilian traditions the recognition they deserve. On his estate between Modica and Chiaramonte, with a cultivation area of over 80 hectares, he manages to masterfully showcase the excellence of these cultivated and raised raw materials (wine, oil and salami from black pigs). With 4 hectares of vineyards and a newly built winery that uses modern systems with no environmental impact, he produces pure, intense wines full of passion.
Sourcing grapes from vineyards cultivated with certified organic systems, Baroni Di Pianogrillo Frappato is a red wine made from Frappato vines planted on calcareous and clay soils facing south at 480 metres above sea level. The grapes are selected and harvested by hand and, once they reach the winery, they are destemmed, pressed and fermented on the skins for several days. The wine is then transferred to 22-hectolitre oak barrels where it will remain for at least 12 months before bottling.
Fresh, easy to drink and elegant, Baroni Di Pianogrillo Frappato is a wine that perfectly reflects the personality of southeastern Sicily. A red wine with an indisputable fragrant personality.
Baroni Di Pianogrillo Frappato 2020 is a juicy red wine with delicate aromas of red fruit accompanied by floral notes. On the palate it is fresh, intense and easy to drink. A medium-bodied wine with bright acidity, a savoury mid-palate and a very pleasant savoury finish.
