Baldomà Selecció is a red wine from the Costers del Segre region and produced by the Vall de Baldomar Winery. The winery is situated in Noguera, Catalonia, in a small valley between the Segre river and the Montsec Range.

The Climate in this area is characterised by continental winters, where mists are very common. The winter mist helps contribute to a perfect degree of humidity which protect the vines from the frost. Once spring comes, the mists disapears and the rains are responsable for ensuring a slow and steady growth. The summesr are dry with mild nights, although there is a large variation in temperature between day and night, which infact benefits the grapes ripening.

This wine is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo (Ull de Llebre). These are taken from from twenty hectares of land, some owned by the winery, others with collaborating farmers. The vineyards are spread throughout the city, some more isolated than others. The soil of these vineyards are clay and silt, calcareous matrix.

The different grape varieties undergo the vinification process seperately in a tradional manner. Fermentation and maceration is carried out at a temperature of between 26-27ºC.

Finally, Baldomà Selecció is then aged for 4 months in first or second year French oak barrels

When we refer to the DO Costers del Segre we think of wines with a continental character, which in some respects is true, but extensive replantation of international grape varieties means that the majority of wines produced here lack a geographical or territorial trademark, even though the vast majority of the wines are technologically perfect. However, there are currently wineries such as Mas Blanch i Jové, Costers del Sio, L’Olivera, Lagravera and Thomas Cusiné, among others, who concentrate their effors on producing wines with what are considered varieties native to the region. However, the majority of this region is still dominated by classic international varieties.
