Astrales Verdejo is a white wine aged on lees produced by the Los Astrales winery in the D.O. Rueda (Castilla y León) with the Verdejo variety.
Although the Romero de la Cruz family set up their winery in 2000, they have actually been cultivating vines for three generations. Located in the Burgos district of Anguix, in Ribera del Duero, Los Astrales has 30 hectares of their own vineyards and makes wines following technical advice from Eduardo García, founder of the Mauro, Maurodos and Aalto wineries. All their wines are guaranteed high quality.
The grapes used to make the Astrales Verdejo wine come from the town of Villaverde de Medina (Valladolid). These are vines planted in poor and deep soils, with some limestone and a large number of boulders that regulate the daytime heat and prevent excessive humidity at night. Herbicides are not used and phytosanitary treatments are used to protect against diseases. The harvest is carried out manually in 12 kilogram boxes.
In the winery, the Astrales Verdejo grapes are destemmed and gently crushed. A short cold maceration then begins before pressing. After a static cold settling, the must begins the alcoholic fermentation process at a controlled temperature. Finally, the wine ages on lees in stainless steel tanks for 4 months with weekly stirring.
As the second wine in the “Colección Astrales Blancos Singulares”, Astrales Verdejo is a white wine that showcases the full aromatic strength of the reigning Rueda variety. A Verdejo that promises very good development in the bottle over the next 5 years.
