Alonso del Yerro María is a red wine produced by Viñedos Alonso del Yerro in Roa (Burgos), within D.O. Ribera del Duero.
In 2002, husband and wife, Javier Alonso and María del Yerro moved to the Santa Marta farm (Roa, Burgos), in the D.O. Ribera del Duero, with a clear enthusiasm for making quality wines. Assisted by the Bordeaux oenologist Stéphane Derenoncourt, they will soon make a name for themselves in the winemaking scene of their area.
Currently Alonso del Yerro vineyards has 22 hectares of vineyards, a set of plots planted in the late 1980s, at an altitude of 800-840 metres, all cultivated by the staff of the winery with the utmost respect for the vineyard, the soil and the environment.
This way of working and a rigorous selection of the best grapes allows Viñedos Alonso del Yerro to produce its wines with outstanding quality.
Alonso del Yerro María is a wine made with Tempranillo from two different plots. One of them is planted on clayey-calcareous soils and the other one, on calcareous gravels.
The harvest is performed manually and then, the grapes go through a strict selection process in the winery, where the two plots are vinified separately. The fermentation and maceration of the must takes place in wooden vats for 25 days. This wine is aged in French oak barrels for 15 months.
