Alain Graillot Saint-Joseph is a monovarietal Syrah red wine from the AOC Saint-Joseph made by Domaine Alain Graillot.
Alain Graillot is a winery located in Pont de l'Isère, in the Crozes-Hermitage appellation, near Train-Hermitage. The winery is located in the middle of the vineyards. It is currently considered one of the most talented producers in the Rhône. It has managed to build this fame in just 20 years, and in a denomination that had been depreciated by many experts until recently.
The vineyard for Alain Graillot Saint-Joseph is one hectare and a half divided into two locations, one in St-Jean-de-Muzols and one on the Andance hills. They are found on hard granite slopes and the plants are young - between 12 and 15 years old.
Alain Graillot Saint-Joseph is vinified by destemming the bunches and cold macerating for a period of 2 to 5 days. It then ferments at a controlled temperature in cement vats and macerates with the skins for about 15 to 21 days. Once produced, it is aged for one year in new and used barrels and the wine is gently filtered before bottling.
Only 5,000 bottles of Alain Graillot Saint-Joseph are produced. It has an ageing potential of around 10 years.
