Abel Mendoza Torrontés is a white wine produced in D.O.Ca. Rioja by Abel Mendoza Monje in San Vicente de la Sonsierra.
Abel Mendoza began his journey in 1988, and he currently has 18 hectares that have been organically cultivated along the banks of the Ebro. The cultivation lands are rough and with a mixed composition, alternating clayey soils, marl and fine sandstones. Climate is moderately continental, marked by the Cantabrian influence.
Abel Mendoza is a wine grower that works his vines with dedication and turns them into personal wines. This is the result of different interpretations of the terroir.
Abel Mendoza Torrontés is a wine made from Torrontés from their own vineyards. This vineyard is part of a series of ancient plots that have traditional grapes from La Rioja, which were recovered from 2000 and onwards. It is planted on clayey soils and it has low yields.
Harvesting is carried out manually, selecting the grapes in the vineyard. The must ferments in new French oak barrels, where it rested for 5 months on its fine lees.
Abel Mendoza Torrontés is a creamy, ample and fresh wine. The varietal aromas prevail over the roasted notes of its ageing. In the mouth it is unctuous and glyceric. A rarity only at the reach of a few.
