About Verge de Martinet
"Stairway to Heaven", the legendary song by Led Zeppelin, the band that revolutionised the history of rock, speaks to us of the relentless pursuit of something beyond the material, that yearning to reach the sublime that invites us to ascend into the unknown. It is with this same sense of transcendence that Mas Martinet introduces us to their wine Verge de Martinet. A wine that, much like the song, invites us to embark on a journey towards the extraordinary under a label depicting a stairway to the most distinctive heaven. Why? Because it is a groundbreaking, unique wine, born from the revival of an ancient winemaking process known as "vi verge." This is a traditional style of Priorat that had been forgotten and now, thanks to the vision of Sara Pérez and her team, it is resurrected with the same passion for authenticity.
In the creation of Verge de Martinet, the grapes of garnacha tinta, garnacha gris, and cariñena are carefully foot-trodden in chestnut half-barrels for a few hours, in a gesture full of tradition and respect. Then, the must ferments in a 1,200-litre foudre and in glass demijohns, allowing the aromas and flavours to express themselves with complete freedom. The ageing process, also in these same vessels for 7 months, enables the wine to develop naturally, authentically, true to its roots.
As a result, Verge de Martinet is an invitation to delve into the history and tradition of Priorat, a wine that, like a stairway to heaven, elevates you to new sensory heights, transporting you to the very depths of this unique region. Yet, it defies stereotypes. A journey that, with Mas Martinet, celebrates the old with a touch of transgression.
