About Ramilo Nativas Rosé
The future is uncertain. Just ask the Ramilo family. It all began with Manuel Ramilo, who returned to Portugal in 1895 after serving as a soldier in Africa. He came back ill, weak, and with little hope. His godfather took him to Alqueidão, a small village near Mafra, in Colares, to spend his final days. But life had other plans. Against all odds, Manuel not only recovered but also found love, stability... and wine.
Over time, the family began producing wine to sell to local taverns and restaurants. For decades, the tradition remained alive. But as in every family story, a moment of doubt arrived: what now? Who will carry on?
His sons, Nuno and Pedro, seemed to have different paths. But something ignited within them. Nuno decided to study oenology. He left behind his career as a bridge engineer to build something more enduring: his own winemaking project.
Thus began a new chapter. Together with his brother Pedro and the oenologist Jorge Mota, they set out to restore the soul of Colares, a nearly forgotten wine region. A gem of the Atlantic, battered by salty winds and historical neglect. They restored family estates, revived native grape varieties, and returned to viewing the land as their ancestors did; with respect and passion.
One of the fruits of this new chapter is Ramilo Nativas Rosé, a wine crafted from biodynamic castelao grapes. It is hand-harvested, fermented without skins in open vats, and aged for nine months in stainless steel. The result is a delicate, vibrant, and lively rosé. Much like this story.
