About Isabelle et Denis Pommier Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume

“Les Larmes de Ma Vigne”, published by Denis Pommier in 2020, provides an intimate portrayal of the arduous labour, challenges, and sacrifices required by the winemaker to produce organic wine. Pommier recounts how he confronts natural adversities such as hail, mildew, or heatwaves without resorting to chemical products. He does so from the perspective of his own experience. He and his wife Isabelle moved to Burgundy in 1990 to produce wine on two hectares of vineyards inherited from the family, and since their first vintage in 1994, their wines have achieved great success. What began as a small family project has now grown into an estate of over 20 hectares, all certified organic vineyards since 2014.

An example of their work is Isabelle et Denis Pommier Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume, a white wine made from the star variety chardonnay sourced from an exceptional terroir composed of clay-limestone soils. Vines aged between 25 and 50 years old located in the village of La Chapelle Vaupelteigne, in Chablis (Burgundy). They work organically with biodynamic treatments and are harvested and selected manually. In the winery, the best grapes are gently pressed, and the resulting must ferments; two-thirds in stainless steel tanks and one-third in oak barrels. Then, the wine matures for 18 months before being released to the market.

Born from his inspiring book of perseverance, innovation, and respect for winemaking tradition, Isabelle et Denis Pommier Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume showcases the elegance of a 1er Cru. The perfect combination of fine fruit and wonderful minerality.
