Hacienda Monasterio is a red wine crafted by Bodegas Hacienda Monasterio, within the D.O. Ribera del Duero.
Hacienda Monasterio stands as one of the prominent wineries of Ribera del Duero, with Peter Sisseck, the renowned Danish oenologist and creator of Pingus, one of the finest Spanish wines in history, at the helm. Furthermore, the winery's vineyards are situated in a privileged area of the D.O., between Pesquera and Valbuena del Duero. This is the celebrated "golden mile," known for its exceptional terroir characteristics and for being home to some of Spain's finest wineries.
Hacienda Monasterio is crafted from the tinto fino variety (the most representative of Ribera), complemented by a small percentage of cabernet sauvignon and merlot varieties. The grapes hail from vineyards on a single estate, with highly calcareous soils that impart great finesse and elegance to the wine. Additionally, the south-facing orientation of the vines enhances grape ripening, and the low yield of the vines contributes to its remarkable aromatic capacity and highly concentrated must.
The vineyard cultivation is organic, with no pesticides, herbicides, or any chemical fertilizers that might negatively impact the environment. This approach keeps the soil's natural biological activity intact, allowing the vineyard to express the true identity of its surroundings. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand and transported to the winery in small plastic crates. Once at the winery, only the clusters in optimal condition are selected.
For the production of Hacienda Monasterio, following complete destemming, the grapes undergo maceration for 24 days. Subsequently, fermentation is carried out solely with the vineyard's natural yeasts. After vinification, Hacienda Monasterio spends over a year in French Allier oak barrels (30% new barrels and 70% three-wine barrels) with rackings every three months.
Hacienda Monasterio embodies the strength, balance, and elegance of Ribera's red wines.
