About Foresta Claret de les Roques

If there is one thing that defines clarete, it is its unique character. Although its colour may remind one of a rosé, it is a wine with its own identity, distinct and steeped in history. Ideal for those seeking something different, clarete is crafted in a special way: by fermenting red and white grapes together, which distinguishes it both in flavour and in its production process. Traditionally found in regions such as Ribera del Duero and Cigales, where vineyards were cultivated in a mixed manner, this ancestral wine is experiencing a resurgence, reclaimed to captivate modern palates. A notable example of this revitalisation is Foresta, a winery situated between Alt Penedès and Garraf (Catalonia). Under the guidance of Lluís Carsí and Gerard Maristany, two vintners committed to organic wines with minimal intervention, they produce, as they describe them, landscape wines that are concentrated, saline, and highly aromatic. Although their foray into the world of claretes was by chance due to a poor vintage with low yield, the result of merging two worlds has become a true vinous gem of the present.

Made from the varieties cabernet franc and sumoll, Foresta Claret de les Roques is a clarete whose vines originate from parcels in the Garraf massif that are cultivated organically and harvested by hand. In the winery, an electric sumoll is vinified as a white, without skin contact, and then a blend is made with the cabernet franc to give it an ageing of 8 months in stainless steel tanks before bottling.

With Foresta Claret de les Roques, the winery demonstrates that the best of two worlds, white and red wine, can come together to create an exceptional wine, capable of enchanting lifelong wine lovers and surprising even the most curious palates.
