About Dehesa la Granja La Temeraria
She was the first woman in Europe to rule in her own right, without a man by her side; she even had the audacity to report her husband, Alfonso I of Aragon, to the Pope for mistreatment, which led to him repudiating her. Such acts, unimaginable for a woman in the Middle Ages, ensured that Urraca of León would be remembered in history as The Reckless. Today, nine centuries later, the exploits of this remarkable woman (whose name was nearly erased) are commemorated in Dehesa la Granja La Temeraria.
“In homage to evolution, perseverance, female talent, and the region where it originates,” this wine emerges, the estate's first rosé—fermented in barrels and aged on lees—that demonstrates significant ageing potential. Specifically, Dehesa la Granja La Temeraria is cultivated in Vadillo de Guareña, in the province of Zamora (in northwestern Spain), where this company owns its estate. Although in this area, closely linked to wine, it is common to find century-old vineyards, Dehesa la Granja La Temeraria is born from 25-year-old vines. Nonetheless, this detail scarcely affects the character and quality of this rosé, as the grapes mature properly under the continental climate, where cold winters and very hot, dry summers prevail (with an annual average of 400 mm). This thermal contrast, maintained between day and night throughout the different seasons of the year, facilitates the proper deposition of anthocyanins (the grape compounds responsible for colour that deposit more easily in cold conditions). Although Zamora is an area with an existing tradition of rosés, we can assure you that Dehesa la Granja La Temeraria will surprise you with its production process, where it will ferment in American oak barrels and undergo an additional nine months of ageing in contact with its lees.
Tradition and elegance come together in Dehesa la Granja La Temeraria: a wine that pays tribute to women, seeking inspiration from the past while looking towards the future.
