About Château Faugères

Château Faugères is a wood-aged red wine made by Château Faugères with the Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties in the AOC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, in Bordeaux (France).
 
A family estate in Saint-Émilion that has been worked since the mid-sixteenth century, Château Faugères has passed through different winemaking families and is considered to be one of the best. In 2005, it was taken over by perfume designer and lover of fine wines Silvio Denz. With a total of 80 hectares lying in two different denominations: Saint-Émilion and Côtes-de-Castillon, he built a monumental winery to position his wines among the best in the denomination and in 2012 Château Faugères became a Grand Cru Classé.
 
Located in the most beautiful Saint-Emilion terroirs, Château Faugères is made up of 37 hectares of exceptional vineyards on clay and calcareous soil. The vines are cultivated using traditional agriculture with sustainable techniques and the yields are limited. The harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness, starting with the Merlot vines, followed by Cabernet Franc and, finally, Cabernet Sauvignon.
 
The beginning of the process in the winery involves different selection tables where the best grapes are chosen one at a time to produce Château Faugères. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures and the wine is aged in 225-litre French oak barrels for 18 months.
 
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Château Faugères is a true cathedral of wine. A landmark in Saint-Emilion that was built as part of the never-ending quest to improve the quality of wine at every stage of production. And this is clear to see in their wine of the same name. This is a rich, delicate and very promising red.

Château Faugères 2015 is a concentrated red wine with a complex nose of blackcurrant, raspberry and cherry over a graphite background. On the palate it becomes sweet, dense and fresh. This is a smooth wine with compact and slightly granulated tannins, and on the mid-palate it is smooth and powerful, revealing a long and persistent finish.
