About Montevertine
How a steel magnate left everything to devote himself exclusively to winemaking has a name: Montevertine. The truth is that when Sergio Manetti discovered the estate located in the heart of the Chianti hills in the town of Radda (Tuscany) in 1967, he was completely captivated and bought it to make it into his holiday home. When it was restored, he took the opportunity to plant two acres of vineyards to produce wine for friends and clients. The first year of production in 1971, although discreet, was a success. Such was the entrepreneur's enthusiasm that after a few years he abandoned his main business to focus solely on wine and went on to create his own small wine empire. After his death in 2000, the company was taken over by his son Martino Manetti who, together with expert oenologist Bruno Bini and wine taster Giulio Gambelli, produces wines while maintaining the traditional values which define the winery.
Montevertine is the homonymous wine and firstborn of the family. It was originally called Chianti Classico Montevertine, but when it was distanced from the Chianti Classico Consortium, it was renamed simply Montevertine. A red wine made with the native Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino grape varieties grown at 425 metres above sea level and which, after being carefully selected, are fermented for 21 days and aged for 24 months in Slavonian and Allier oak casks. Finally, the wine remains in the bottle for 3 months before being released onto the market.
As the American prestigious wine critic Antonio Galloni says, Montevertino is shaping up to be an epic and triumphant wine. The vigour, elegance and character of this firstborn seduces from the very first glass.
| 2017 |
Montevertine 2017 is a concentrated red wine with an aromatic complexity of black fruit, notes of dried violet flowers and spiced and balsamic hints. The palate is initially piquant and then softens with olfactory suggestions. An enveloping wine with soft, well-integrated tannins and a pleasant freshness. The finish is lingering, spicy and floral. |
