About Eulogio Pomares Castiñeiro Espadeiro

Eulogio Pomares Castiñeiro Espadeir is a barrel aged monovarietal of the native variety Espadeiro produced by the Galician winemaker Eulogio Pomares in Ribadumia, Pontevedra.

The vineyard producing Eulogio Pomares Castiñeiro Espadeirois about 40 years old, is located in the Salnés Valley and belongs to the D.O. Rías Baixas. Its soils are alluvial and rich in organic matter, and stand on a bedrock of granite origin.

To produce Eulogio Pomares Castiñeiro Espadeiro the grapes are destemmed and fermented in open oak barrels. During the fermentation daily pigeage is performed so that the wine is more in contact with the skins and more colour and aromatic compounds are extracted. Once the fermentation is finished, a post-fermentation maceration of about 2 weeks is performed to extract more compounds from the skins and to enable the wine to be subjected to a prolonged barrel ageing. Lastly, it is aged in French oak barrels that are used to ensure they do not contribute so many aromas of wood to the wine. The wine Eulogio Pomares Castiñeiro Espadeiro is bottled without clarifying or filtering, something that may cause some deposit or sediment to appear in the glass.

Eulogio Pomares Castiñeiro Espadeiro is a fresh wine, an expression of the Rías Baixas reds and the cultivation practices and processing techniques used in their preparation. Its production is very limited, with only some 1,300 bottles being produced.
2018 Eulogio Pomares Castiñeiro Espadeiro 2018 is an exquisite, light-bodied red wine that, on the nose, presents a veritable bouquet of wildflowers and aromatic herbs. Upon tasting, it is lively and effervescent, with a palate graced by tart berry flavors and an almost sparkling minerality. This red wine is sophisticated, with a prolonged finish, meticulous in its composition, and genuinely astonishing.
2017 Eulogio Pomares Castiñeiro Espadeiro 2017 has aromas of red fruit, cherry, blueberries, balsamic touches, dried flowers and spices. On the palate it is rounded and with good acidity. You can enjoy it from now on, and it will gain nuances with ageing in the bottle.
