About Château Figeac

Château Figeac is a barrel-aged red wine produced by Château Figeac in the AOC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, in Bordeaux, France, with the Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon red varieties.

One of the main estates in St. Emilion (Bordeaux), on the border with Pomerol, the name Figeac dates back to the 2nd century BC.   It is owned by the Manoncourt family since 1892 and when Thierry Manoncourt took over in 1943, Château Figeac became more prominent.  What makes this winery one of a kind are important decisions like the unique grape composition of 30% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon. Today this same work is carried out by his wife and daughters.

Classified as 1er Grand Cru Classé, Château Figeac comes from vines planted in outstanding soils of gravel, sand and clay. This is an impressive wine-growing enclave surrounded by a pond, forest and meadow that supports the balance of the three main grape varieties (Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon); a unique composition in the Bordeaux area. The vines are cultivated using environmentally friendly agriculture and yields are limited.

In the winery, Château Figeac follows a traditional winemaking process. Firstly the grapes pass over the selection table, then they are destemmed and the maceration and fermentation process begins at controlled temperatures. Finally, the wine ages in French oak barrels for 15 to 22 months. Ideally, the wine needs at least 10 years of bottle aging to reach its best.

Château Figeac is the perfect wine if you are looking to get your hands on a unique 1er Grand Cru assemblage from Bordeaux. A superb and persistent red that is faithful to the classic style of the area.

2024

Château Figeac 2024 enchants with a captivating bouquet, featuring prominent aromas of blackcurrants and mentholated berries, complemented by hints of liquorice and a subtle scent of pencil shavings, all enveloped in a sophisticated layer of new oak. On the palate, this wine is a medium to full-bodied delight, with a velvety texture that unfolds in layers. Its tannins are finely polished, and its smooth, silky profile is simply mesmerizing. The 2024 vintage posed challenges; however, the bold decision to delay the harvest and discard a significant portion of the crop allowed Château Figeac to offer a wine brimming with character. Perfect for those seeking depth and elegance in a glass.
