About Château Cos Labory
p> Wine is still seen as a luxury. In some elitist environments, wine still scares quite a few drinkers. Whether it’s a money thing, or embarrassment or ignorance, young people prefer to stick to beer or spirits, which are much more straightforward. And the future of wine is a bit uncertain. Something we should remember: the consumers of today will stop drinking sooner or later (sooner would be best). To put it plainly: we need to be aware that the wine industry faces the challenge of trying to find tomorrow’s consumers today. At Château Cos Labory they have been quite successful, by making their wines with young people in mind.
In the heart of the Gironde estuary, in the north of the Médoc, this property lies in the Cos hills. There in Bordeaux, within the A.O.C. Saint-Estèphe, lies this ancient château, owned by François Audoy where one of the best Bordeaux wines is produced: the Château Cos Labory red wine. Château Cos Labory has the privilege of being one of the five crus classés of this ‘appellation d'origine contrôlée’ or controlled denomination or origin. This estate spread across 18 hectares, where the vines, with an average age of 35 years old, grow on a terroir of quaternary gravel with remarkable drainage. The name ‘Cos’ refers to a ‘hill of pebbles’ in old Gascon, so we don’t need much of an explanation to understand what the soils growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are like.
However, despite its age, being founded in 1845 by François Labory, Château Cos Labory has managed adapt to the times, with new technical investments, wine-making rooms and a new cellar. This is where the must ferments at low temperatures in stainless steel tanks, in order to produce young wines that retain good aromas. In terms of aging, Château Cos Labory works to perfect their wines in oak barrels (half of them new), but always bearing in mind that the wine, far from being exclusive, must also appeal to a young audience.
Château Cos Labory is a good wine, a reference in oenology books in fact. Thanks to the work of this winery, French wines are no longer an exclusive product reserved for those with deep pockets, and they have become the best way to get to know Bordeaux wines.

| 2022 | Château Cos Labory 2022 is a juicy and fruity wine. On the nose, blueberries, spices, petals, and chocolate emerge. It is tense on the palate, with a delightful acidity. Firm tannins. Delicate and complex. |
|
| 2020 | Château Cos Labory 2020 is a concentrated, intense red wine made from Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Cabernet Franc (5%) and Merlot (35%). The nose offers notes of classic cassis, ripe plums and hints of kirsch, pencil shavings, red roses and damp earth. On the palate it has a medium body, with pleasant, mature tannins. Red and black fruit flavours, mineral notes and saline nuances stand out. Long and persistent finish. |
|
| 2016 | Château Cos Labory 2016 envelops us with its bouquet of blackcurrant and ripe plums, interwoven with hints of fresh herbs and a subtle mineral undertone. On the palate, it is poised and vibrant, sustaining a density that promises to mature with elegance. While slightly youthful, its framework and finesse indicate it will beautifully round out over time. |
