About Finca Santa María

Finca Santa María is a red wine produced by the Valtravieso winery in the DO Ribera del Duero. This winery was founded in 1985 in the municipality of Pinel de Arriba (Valladolid).
 
Finca Santa María is crafted from the Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) grape variety, with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon and other red varieties. The grapes for Finca Santa María come from both the winery's own vineyards and trusted growers' plots located between Burgos and Valladolid, where shallow soils with lime and limestone are prevalent. 
 
In the winemaking process of Finca Santa María, the varieties ferment separately in stainless-steel tanks of 10,000 and 20,000 kg capacity. All fermentations take place at 24-26°C for 10-12 days, followed by a 12-day maceration with the skins. Before its time in barrel, Finca Santa María undergoes natural clarification with two rackings.
 
Finally, Finca Santa María undergoes several months of ageing in French oak barrels less than three years old and is further refined for additional months in the bottle.

Valtravieso Finca Santa María 2024 surprises with its vibrant ruby red colour, adorned with subtle violet hues that invite one to delve into its essence. Bringing the glass to the nose reveals a world of freshness with aromas of wild red berries, such as strawberries and raspberries, accompanied by delicate notes of violet. On the palate, this wine unfolds a silky texture full of volume, with well-integrated tannins that provide an enveloping character. Its finish is long, leaving an intriguing spicy touch that lingers.

Valtravieso Finca Santa María 2023 boasts an alluring ruby red hue with purplish tints that denote its youthful character. On the nose, it is distinguished by aromas of strawberries and raspberries, complemented by floral notes of violet. On the palate, it is light and exceedingly pleasant, with a smooth texture and well-integrated tannins. Its flavour is savoury, with a notable length and a finish where ripe fruit merges with balsamic nuances and a subtle toasted hint. A fresh and fluid wine.

Valtravieso Finca Santa María 2020 is a fruit-forward red wine. The bouquet is replete with berry fruits (brambleberries, ripe black cherries) and floral undertones (violets). On the palate, it is delightful, exhibiting a substantial body and a pronounced finish. It possesses robust tannins and a vibrant acidity. The enduring finish is accentuated by spiced nuances.
2018 On the nose Valtravieso Finca Santa María 2018 is very fruity with outstanding aromas of cherry and a fresh balsamic sensation. On the palate it has body but no weight, which makes it very versatile.
2017 Valtravieso Finca Santa María 2017 is a young red wine that is fluid and fruity. This vintage displays all its fruitiest character, aromas of fresh red fruit, spicy notes and a highly subtle floral touch. On the palate it is lively and sweet, with a fresh and lingering finish.
2014 Full-flavoured and unctuous. Flavoursome, fruity sensations, sweet tannins and good acidity. Long finish.

Garnet red with purple reflections.

Intense aromas of red fruit combined with roasted notes. Smooth spicy and balsamic base.
2013 On the palate, it is pleasant and fleshly. Passing in unctuous and velvety with sensations of black fruit. Sweet tannins and good acidity. Medium-long finish.

Large aromatic intensity, predominance of ripe black fruit with toasted and spicy notes.
2009 Good attack. Intense and silky mid palate. Sweet tannins and balanced acidity. Good finish and medium persistence. An elegant, pleasant, fresh and young wine.

Intense ruby red colour with high robe and purple reflections. Bright and clean.

Intense notes of fruits accompanied by the elegance provided by the wood. Powerful fruit notes (mostly black) accompanied by lightly toasted and spicy touches (rather sweet) on a good mineral background.
2008 Pleasant in the mouth. The acidity is well balanced by the tannic sensation. Pure fruit notes accompanied with aging nuances that bring elegance and balance.

Bright ruby red with purple highlights.

Aromatic harmony. Black fruits on a background of grape jam with hints of licorice and vanilla. Also emerging species (white pepper and curry) adorned with a certain sweetness of cinnamon.
