About Masseria Setteporte Etna Rosso

At times, an individual's most noteworthy achievements may not align with their primary profession. Our actions and contributions can define us beyond our professional titles, sometimes in areas entirely different from our main occupation. In the case of Ferdinando Portale, a renowned Italian notary, where he truly made a significant impact was in the modernization of viticulture in the Etna region of Sicily. At Tenuta Masseria Setteporte, a wine estate located on the southwestern slopes of Mount Etna, near Biancavilla, Portale introduced substantial improvements in cultivation techniques, applying them to one of the region's most iconic varieties; the nerello mascalese. Today, his legacy continues in the hands of his son, Piero Portale, who has expanded the estate to 27 hectares, continuing to produce elegant, aromatic wines with excellent drinkability.

In the case of Masseria Setteporte Etna Rosso, it consists of a very traditional blend composed of the indigenous varieties nerello mascalese and nerello cappuccio. Vines that grow on the slopes of Mount Etna on black soils at over 650 meters above sea level. They work organically, combining the long viticultural legacy with the most advanced techniques. In the winery, the selected, destemmed, and pressed grapes ferment in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts. Afterwards, the wine ages for 9 months before being bottled and marketed.

As a result of the volcanic soil, high altitudes, and typical Mediterranean climate, Masseria Setteporte Etna Rosso stands out for its minerality, aromatic finesse, and notable persistence on the palate. An outstanding DOC Etna Rosso that has become a benchmark among Etna wines.

 

2022
