About La Biancara Pico Veneto

With garganega being one of Italy's most significant white varieties and a native pride of the Veneto region, Angiolino Maule has not only given it his utmost preference but has treated it as if it were his own child. With unwavering dedication, this pioneer of Italian natural wine has elevated it to the highest levels of expression, making it the heart of his winery, La Biancara.

Maule, renowned as the father of Italian natural wine, has, since he began his project in 1988, marked a turning point in viticulture. After leaving his profession as a pizzaiolo to pursue his true passion, he purchased six hectares of vineyards in the hills of Sorio di Gambellara, in Veneto, and began producing genuine, vibrant wines, free from chemicals and in perfect harmony with nature. His philosophy broke away from the stereotypes of the time and laid the foundations for a new way of understanding wine.

Today, La Biancara, with the assistance of his children, spans 14 hectares, almost entirely dedicated to garganega. Their flagship wine, La Biancara Pico Veneto, is a gem that reflects everything Maule has achieved: a pure garganega, cultivated on the highest hills of Gambellara. The clusters are destemmed, and fermentation begins spontaneously. The duration of skin contact maceration depends on the year, with maturation taking place in large 15 hl oak barrels for 12 months. Bottled without filtration or the addition of SO2, this wine embodies the soul of Veneto and the philosophy of a man who knew how to listen to and respect nature.

2021

La Biancara Pico IGT Veneto 2021 exhibits an intense golden yellow hue with coppery highlights. On the nose, it is distinguished by its complexity, where one can discern floral aromas, notes of fresh herbs, and a hint of fruits such as apricot and peach, complemented by mineral nuances. On the palate, it is enveloping and persistent, balanced by a good freshness and a minerality that imparts character. Its creamy profile makes it very pleasant and easy to enjoy.
