About Fedellos do Couto Testorio Blanco

Their adventure began in 2013. Since then they have achieved several endorsements and Parker points, and most importantly, they are the talk of the town.

Jesús Olivares, Curro Bareño and Luis Taboada are the soul of Fedellos do Couto, a project set up in Galicia, in the D.O. Ribeira Sacra, which has recently seen a range of unique, fun, uncomplicated and very unconventional wines emerge from it. These three winemakers have played a part in this with their Fedellos do Couto Testorio Blanco.

This wine starts life on the terraces and steep slopes of the Sil and Bibei river basins. The vineyards, mostly aged between 60 and 80 years old on average, are organically cultivated at an altitude of 450 metres above sea level on slate soils. The continental climate, with the high rainfall and the influence of the Atlantic, gives the Fedellos do Couto Testorio Blanco grapes an excellent natural acidity.

In the winery, this translates into vibrant wines that are made with pressed grapes that then ferment with native yeasts in old barrels. After this, the wine is racked and aged for 8 months in French oak barrels, and finally bottled and filtered without clarifying.

In Galician, the word fedello is used to describe a person who never stops, who is always up to something and who gets involved in all kinds of trouble. For Jesús, Curro and Luis, Fedellos do Couto Testorio Blanco is not their only adventure. After this, there have been more projects; but Fedellos do Couto Testorio Blanco was the first. A great wine to get an insight into the minds of this winemaking trio. The name could not be more perfect.

2022

Fedellos do Couto Testorio Blanco 2022 is a white wine with character and elegance. On the nose, it presents fresh aromas of green apple and pear, accompanied by subtle citrus hints. Fedellos do Couto Testorio Blanco 2019 is a highly profiled wine, made from Godello (45%), Doña Blanca (45%) and other white varieties (10%). On the nose it brings hints of pollen, fennel and oats. On the palate it is vibrant, with predominant salty and citrus (lime) notes. The finish is lingering and persistent.
