About Esporreres

Although Agustí Torelló Mata is a well-known figure who has devoted a lifetime to viticulture and winemaking in the Penedès and whose name is synonymous with cava, in 2013 he ventured to new horizons and decided to try his luck in the unique territory of the D.O. Montsant. In the town of Cornudella de Montsant, working with his son and his sister Lali, he started minimum intervention work to make wines that are the living image of the place. Under the name Companyia Vitícola Sileo (a Latin term meaning to venture into new horizons) they make wines with body and soul that reconnect you with the land they come from.

Among the wines made by the winery, Esporreres is a red wine from a unique plot worked by the Carthusian monks in the mid-12th century and replanted by the locals in 1986. These are Garnacha Tinta vineyards growing on terraces up to 730 metres above sea level. With a slate soil that is typical of the area, and low water retention, the grapes develop with unique texture and unique minerality. They work organically and avoid chemical products that could harm the natural growth of the vine. When the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested manually and taken straight to the winery. There, starting with a minimal intervention vinification, the wine is fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks and then aged for 12 months in 500L French oak barrels.

With more than thirty years of experience in the world of cava and consulting in different wine-growing areas, Esporreres is the result of a personal challenge. To give the wine the voice of a unique, distinctive and surprising terroir.

Esporreres 2019 is a smooth red wine with raspberry aromas on a background of sweet spice. On the palate it is fresh, light and balanced. A medium-bodied wine with natural acidity, integrated tannins and a long, refreshing finish.
