Tasting notes Bott Crozes-Hermitage Rouge 2023
Red wine Aged in wood. 10 meses en barricas de roble.
Bott Crozes-Hermitage Rouge 2023 epitomises elegance in wine form. Upon approaching the nose, aromas of red fruits such as cherries and raspberries prevail, complemented by a delicate hint of violets. On the palate, it exhibits a striking intensity and deep colour, with well-defined tannins that provide firmness and richness. Despite its powerful and structured nature, its balance makes it enjoyable from a young age, with the promise of improving over time. This particular vintage is distinguished by its finesse and capacity for evolution, making it an excellent choice for those who appreciate complexity in a red wine.

About Bott Crozes-Hermitage Rouge
Small entrepreneurs often find themselves wearing many hats... and no one knows this better than Graeme and Julie Bott. Graeme, hailing from New Zealand, and Julie, from the Rhône Valley, met while working at Stéphane Ogier. Neither came from winemaking families nor owned any land, so to fulfil their dream of having their own estate, they had no choice but to start from scratch.
Purchasing existing vineyards was out of the question due to exorbitant prices, so the only solution was to seek out unplanted plots, often overgrown with bushes and weeds. In 2015, they took their first significant step: acquiring their first plot in AOP Condrieu, in Vérin. With empty pockets and no equipment, they set to work: clearing the land, rebuilding the stone walls by hand, and planting their first vines on soils of decomposed granite, the original terroir of viognier.
From that garage and those initial vines emerged what is now Domaine Bott. Owners of vineyards in Condrieu, Côte-Rôtie, Saint-Joseph, and Seyssuel, Graeme and Julie have a clear goal: to let the schist and granite terroir speak in their wines, showcasing the pure essence of each plot.
Bott Crozes-Hermitage Rouge exemplifies this philosophy. Made from 100% syrah, cultivated on alluvial and pebble soils, this wine reflects the authentic character of the region. Harvesting is done by hand, and the grapes are meticulously selected both in the vineyard and on the sorting table. After direct pressing with decantation, fermentation takes place in barrels using indigenous yeasts, and the wine matures for 10 months in French oak barrels, gaining texture, depth, and complexity.
Bott Crozes-Hermitage Rouge is a wine that achieves a balance of elegance and strength, a true testament to the effort, passion, and vision of Graeme and Julie, who began their journey from nothing and today allow each plot to speak for itself.
