Tasting notes Benoît Ente Aligoté Antichtone 2020
White wine Aged in wood Biodynamic, Organic and Respectful agriculture.
Benoît Ente Aligoté Antichtone 2020 is a characterful, ample and dynamic white. Pure energy. Sweet fruit (pear), freshly baked bread and a slight hint of dried herbs quickly appear. The palate is round and very flavoursome, satiny, with a fruity core (apple, pear, kiwi, lime) and piquant touches. Tense, persistent finish, with touches of salt and acid. Well balanced. This vintage was harvested in early August.

About Benoît Ente Aligoté Antichtone
Benoît Ente has become a cult winemaker. His wines are almost impossible to find! But don’t panic. Here we bring you Benoît Ente Aligoté Antichtone.
It has been a long road for this winegrower, a major figure in Burgundy, with productions that are crafted in several appellations in the area, such as the Puligny-Montrachet AOC, the Chassagne-Montrachet AOC, the Bourgogne Chardonnay AOC and the Bourgogne-Aligoté AOC. It is here, in the latter, that we find the origin of Benoît Ente Aligoté Antichtone, a single varietal white chardonnay, where plots planted in the early 2000s are combined with older ones, planted by Benoît’s grandfather (between 1949 and 1953). While the younger ones are located on well-drained, clay-rich soils, the older vineyards are in an area where clay and limestone soils are abundant. Just like his brother (the well-known winemaker Arnaud Ente), Benoît focusses all his attention on the field, where he implements organic and biodynamic cultivation, totally respectful of the rest of the ecosystem, without using any chemicals. With the awareness that everything that is not achieved in the field is lost in the cellar, Benoît Ente pays special attention to pruning, always trying to control yields, always seeking the highest possible concentration. Something similar can be said when it comes to climate change, where research plays a key role in being able to continue with his usual practices. In this regard, both Arnaud and Benoît have started to work on plant covers whose shading helps to control soil temperature.
In the cellar, Benoît Ente is always identified by its refinement: slow, very delicate pressing and long vinification and ageing. In the case of Benoît Ente Aligoté Antichtone, a minimum of 18 months in Stockinger barrels is a must. The time spent in contact with the oak, of Austrian origin, gives this white wine its distinctive touch. You just have to wait, listen and be patient. Finally, Benoît Ente signs this white wine under the name of Antichton, a supposed planet hypothesised by Greek philosophers, which stood between the Earth and the ‘Central Fire’ (distinct from the sun). This essence and this strength is what defines Benoît Ente Aligoté Antichtone. Pure character.
